Medicare eRx Incentive Program: 2012 Hardship Exemption Deadline is Approaching – Tuesday, November 1, 2011

e-prescribingDid you submit code G8553 on claims for 10 e-prescribing “events” (visits) before June 30, 2011? If not, you will be subject to the Medicare adjustment (penalty), which will apply to your Medicare PFS fees for 2012.

However, there’s one last chance that may apply to you.  You may have a chance to avoid this penalty if any of the following Hardship Exemptions apply to you:

  • I registered to participate in the Medicare or Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs for 2011 and have adopted Certified EHR Technology (eCW’s Certification Number: 30000001SVE6EAC)
  • I have an inability to electronically prescribe due to local, state or federal laws or regulations
  • I have limited prescribing activity
  • I had insufficient opportunities to report the electronic prescribing measure
  • I practice in a rural area without sufficient high-speed Internet access
  • I practice in an area without sufficient available pharmacies for electronic prescribing

If these situations apply, you must register by Tuesday, November 1, 2011, for the Hardship Exemption that describes your particular situation.

Visit the Medicare eRx Incentive Program – Payment Adjustment webpage for more information and to request your exemption.
